MitraClip™ (Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair) is an alternative treatment option for mitral insufficiency. A metallic clip is inserted via a small groin incision. The clip is advanced to the leaking valve and it staples the leaking leaflets together.
The procedure is performed in the presence of an interventional cardiologist, a cardiac surgeon and a specialized anesthesiologist at a state-of-the-art hybrid operating room at the Pepin Heart Institute, Florida Hospital in Tampa. MitraClip™ is a non-surgical option which is less invasive than conventional surgery. It improves survival, symptoms and quality of life.
