TEVAR (Thoracic Endovascular Aortic Repair)

TEVAR (Thoracic Endovascular Aortic Repair) is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat conditions affecting the thoracic (upper) portion of the aorta, such as aneurysms (a bulge in the artery wall) or dissections (a tear in the lining of the walls). The aorta is the body’s largest artery, and damage to it can be life-threatening.

In the TEVAR procedure, a surgeon inserts a stent graft—a fabric-covered metal mesh tube—through a small incision, usually in the groin, and guides it through the blood vessels to the affected area in the chest using X-ray imaging. Once in place, the stent graft reinforces the weakened section of the aorta, helping to prevent rupture or further tearing.
