Coronary Artery Calcium (CAC) Score Test

A coronary artery calcium (CAC) test is a computerized tomography (CT) scan of the heart that measures the amount of calcium in the heart’s arteries. This buildup of calcium can narrow the arteries and reduce blood flow to the heart. A calcium score, or CAC score, is calculated and used to determines the patient’s risk of coronary artery disease. Other names for the test are CT calcium score test, coronary calcium CT scan, and a heart CT calcium scan.
