Gonadal vein embolization
Gonadal vein embolization is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat pelvic congestion syndrome (varicose veins in the pelvis area) or nutcracker syndrome (compression of the left renal (kidney) vein). Using image guidance, a thin tube called a catheter is inserted, usually through the groin, and advanced to the affected vein. Tiny coils are then passed through the catheter and placed inside the vein, causing it to clot and permanently seal off.
