Transeophageal Echocardiogram (TEE)

Transesophageal Echocardiogram (TEE)

A Transesophageal Echocardiogram (TEE) is a special type of echocardiogram in which a small ultrasound probe is inserted through the mouth and down into the esophagus to take pictures of the heart. Whereas with a regular echocardiogram images are taken from outside the chest, a TEE allows your cardiologist to have a more detailed view of the inside and back of the heart, including the valves and left atrium. A TEE also is used to obtain additional anatomic information in preparation for other cardiac procedures including valve surgery, watchman device, heart ablations or prior to a cardioversion.
